Cathedral Chapter

What is a Cathedral Chapter?

In the Episcopal Church, a Cathedral Chapter serves as the governing body of the cathedral. At St. Paul’s, Chapter is composed of lay members elected from within the congregation who are entrusted with fiduciary responsibility.

Spiritual oversight rests with the Bishop of Iowa and the Dean of the Cathedral. The Chapter works in close partnership with them, ensuring that decisions about finances, property, and long-term planning support the cathedral’s mission faithfully and sustainably.

Chapter members serve prayerfully and collaboratively.

How Chapter Serves St. Paul’s

Chapter responsibilities include:

  • Approving the annual operating budget

  • Overseeing financial stewardship and long-term sustainability

  • Caring for cathedral property and facilities

  • Supporting major strategic initiatives

  • Providing governance and policy oversight

Our mission shapes this work:

St. Paul’s Episcopal Cathedral is a welcoming, worshiping community committed to living Christ’s unconditional love through fellowship, service, and kindness.

And our vision guides our decisions:

Grounded in worship.
Deepening in faith.
Reaching out in love.
